Instructions -
*You have two periods to INDIVIDUALLY work through as many of these tasks as you can.
*They are to help you to prepare for the assessment on Thursday.
*You can work through these tasks in any order and you can complete this on paper or digitally.
*The test is on Thurs and Fri week 10.
- Define the following words:
Push factor
a push factor is something that makes you want to leave a country or place
Pull factor
a pull factor is something that makes you want to go to a country or place
Emigrate
to exit a country
Immigrate
to enter a country
Migrant
someone who has moved to a different country
Obstacle
something that gets in the way of someones movement
- List push factors, pull factors and obstacles that the British faced when they immigrated to NZ.
push factor: bad working conditions and bad pay
pull factor: lots of land and a new start to life
obstacles: the Maori who did not speak English and fought the British
- List the consequences of the British immigrating to NZ. Think about the effects on Britain and NZ as countries as well as the people in both countries
new Zealand got over run by the British and started trying to get the Maori to stop speaking their language
- List push factors, pull factors and obstacles that the Irish faced when they emigrated to America.Think about Britain and NZ as countries as well as the people and how they were affected.
push factors: crowded land not enough space
pull factors: lots of open land buffalo to hunt for their skin and fur
obstacles: the tribes that wanted to kill them
- List the consequences of the Irish emigrating to America.Think about the effects on America
- Create a CANVA poster that would encourage the British to immigrate to NZ. You will need to make a sign in. https://www.canva.com/
- Create a Kahoot about the above.https://create.kahoot.it/login
- Write three SEEL paragraphs explaining one of the following: why the Irish wanted to emigrate to America OR why the British wanted to come to NZ. Use the paragraph document I have sent you for help.
